A smarter route to Biodiversity Net Gain compliance

How Biofarm delivered a joined-up BNG solution for UK leading property devevloper, Wrenbridge.

Biofarm delivers hassle-free BNG for property developer, Wrenbridge

UK property developers partner with Biofarm to deliver hassle-free BNG

For many developers, achieving Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) compliance is not just about securing biodiversity units, it’s about navigating complexity.

  • Different habitat types

  • Different habitat types

  • Multiple habitat banks

  • Separate negotiations

  • Pressure on planning timelines

Too often, developers are expected to piece together biodiversity units from several providers to meet planning requirements.

At Biofarm, we believe there’s a better way to deliver Biodiversity Net Gain.

Instead of asking developers to assemble units from multiple sources, we design one joined-up solution - sourcing the right habitats from our own portfolio and trusted partner network, then structuring everything as one clear commercial agreement.

  • One partner

  • One deal

  • One straightforward route to BNG compliance

A bespoke BNG solution for Wrenbridge

This approach was recently demonstrated in a project delivered for a leading UK property developer, Wrenbridge.

The scheme had a biodiversity deficit across both medium and high distinctiveness habitats, creating a complex requirement for Biodiversity Net Gain units.

The developer needed a fast, cost-effective route to compliance without delaying planning timelines.

Rather than directing the developer to multiple habitat banks, Biofarm assessed the requirement holistically and designed a bespoke BNG delivery strategy.

Designing a more efficient Biodiversity Net Gain strategy

Our team structured a solution that addressed the biodiversity requirement more efficiently and commercially.

The strategy included:

Habitat Trading Up

The scheme’s biodiversity requirement included individual trees and medium distinctiveness woodland. By trading up to lowland meadow habitat, we delivered the required biodiversity uplift in a more cost-effective way.

Aggregating Habitat Units

Additional habitat units, including lowland mixed deciduous woodland, were sourced through Biofarm’s trusted habitat bank partner network.

One Joined-Up Transaction

All biodiversity units were delivered under one commercial agreement, removing the need for multiple negotiations and contracts with separate providers.

Reducing Complexity for Developers

The result was a simple, commercially efficient BNG solution that reduced time, cost and complexity for the developer.

By structuring the delivery through a single partner, Biofarm enabled the project to meet Biodiversity Net Gain requirements without delay, helping keep the development programme on track.

For developers navigating the new Biodiversity Net Gain regulations, this kind of integrated approach can make the difference between a complex compliance exercise and a streamlined delivery strategy.

Delivering Biodiversity Net Gain at scale

As Biodiversity Net Gain becomes a core part of the UK planning system, developers increasingly need access to reliable, scalable habitat solutions.

We work with developers to:

  • Design BNG compliance strategies

  • Secure biodiversity units across multiple habitat types, where needed

  • Structure single-agreement BNG solutions

  • Source habitats from Biofarm’s portfolio and partner network

This integrated approach enables developers to move quickly from biodiversity requirement to compliant delivery.

One Partner. One Deal. One Clear Route to BNG Compliance

Every development has a different biodiversity challenge

Some require multiple habitat types. Others face tight planning timelines. Many need BNG units across different locations or habitat banks.

Our role is to simplify that complexity and turn it into one clear, workable solution.

If you’re navigating a complex Biodiversity Net Gain requirement, we can help.
