The opportunity
More space for nature at Thoulstone
Thoulstone Park sits in the Wiltshire countryside near Frome, where open grassland, grazing sheep, young woodland and water are already part of the landscape.
It’s also a place people use and enjoy. Woodland walks, a weekly parkrun and other outdoor activities bring the local community into the park throughout the year.
We’re exploring how around 24.65 ha could give nature a bigger place within that story. Plans could include creating richer grassland, improving the young woodland and enhancing the existing pond, building on the landscape that is already here.

Our plans for the habitat bank would build on that connection with the landscape, improving existing habitats and creating more space for nature alongside the way the park is already used and cared for.
The Wiltshire and Swindon Local Nature Recovery Strategy identifies this area for measures including creating open mixed habitats, restoring woodland and maintaining and enhancing mixed habitats. The opportunities we’re exploring at Thoulstone sit naturally within that wider direction for nature recovery.
