Restoring habitat around a Celtic rainforest
Lesnewth sits within the River Valency landscape in North Cornwall, where one of England’s remaining temperate Celtic rainforests survives. Across 26.8 hectares, lowland meadow, neutral grassland, mixed scrub, broadleaved woodland, rural trees and traditional Cornish hedgerows will be restored and enhanced.
By restoring and enhancing the landscape around this rare woodland, Lesnewth will strengthen ecological connections through the valley, giving wildlife more room to move and supporting the rainforest’s long-term resilience.

Funding for habitat management, monitoring and reporting is ring-fenced for the full 30-year term. This gives you greater confidence in long-term delivery, while protecting the sustained management nature needs to recover and thrive.
Strengthening the Celtic rainforest landscape
Species-rich grassland, woodland, scrub, rural trees and Cornish hedgerows will be restored and enhanced around the River Valency. Together, they will extend and reconnect habitat around one of England’s remaining temperate Celtic rainforests.
Monitoring that guides the work
Ecological monitoring will track how the habitats establish and change. The results will guide the work on the ground, allowing management to adapt as nature responds.
