Development doesn’t need to cost the earth
At Biofarm, we’ve always believed development and biodiversity can coexist. The launch of our new site makes that clearer than ever, showing how nature, the built-environment, and communities can grow side by side.
Nature loss could wipe almost 5% off UK GDP this decade. New evidence from the Green Finance Institute and WWF shows just how tightly our economy and wellbeing are bound to nature - and why urgent action can’t wait.
Nature is the foundation of progress
Nature risks, from water scarcity and extreme temperatures to soil loss, are already pushing up costs and weakening resilience across housing, energy, farming and manufacturing. Construction alone takes half the world’s natural materials to build the infrastructure we rely on.
Nature isn’t optional: it’s the foundation of productivity, security, health and growth. To safeguard our future, it must sit at the heart of the UK government’s growth plans.
The real risk isn’t investing in nature. It’s failing to.
An opportunity for growth
Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is a huge opportunity to improve our natural ecosystems, the economy, and society as a whole. It provides a practical, long-term route to restoring balance, getting developers, corporates, local authorities, and landowners to work collaboratively with nature to the benefit of all of us.
BNG: building natural capital
Since 2024, BNG has been a legal requirement across England for every new development to leave nature better than it found it. Almost all developers applying for planning permission must compensate for any habitat loss, and deliver at least a 10% biodiversity uplift.
But for many looking at BNG, it can feel confusing, adding complexity and uncertainty, and some see it as an unwelcome cost, not an investment.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
At Biofarm, we believe in making biodiversity accessible, practical and rewarding for everyone. Delivering high integrity BNG for those who need it, and long-term value for those who provide it. By working in partnership, building trusted relationships, and bringing our deep experience in development, planning, and ecology to bear, we help developers, landowners, and planners find their way to opportunity through BNG.
